Mariategui, The Lesser, and his cowardly, slanderous and racists attacks

So that readers in Nicaragua and from countries where my articles are published, understand, I explain: in Peru there is a national glory, the most lucid revolutionary ideologue from Latin America. He is Jose Carlos Mariategui. He had a descendant, named Aldo, director of the ultra right rag "El Correo". I have referred to the first as Mariategui "The Great" and the other, as Mariategui "The Lesser."

Aldo is Peru's most rabid reactionary. He is, moreover, a lousy writer, intellectually limited, and racist. He called the indigenous leader, Alberto Pizango --- who in a most surprising way sought political asylum in our Embassy, which is most respectful of Peru's internal affairs, an "abominable and adventurous" cholo*.

Taking advantage of my absence, (I am in Nicaragua due to the grave condition of an aunt whom I consider my second mother), and from the pages of his newspaper, Mariategui "The Lesser" cowardly repeats the accusations of Adan Artola (who backs the independence of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua and hates the F.S.L.N. because it is an organization that will never ever accept the partitioning of our country), against F.S.L.N. leaders, whom he calls genocidal. This Artola visited my office in Managua once. Now he is a regular guest of the Northamerican Embassy where, by the way, he is treated with a degree of contempt.

What "The Insignificant" ignores is that a sector of the Miskitos took up arms, financed down to the last bullet and the last morsel by the government of the United States. What "The Lesser" ignores is that we punished more severely and with greater harshness the members of our Army and of our Police for certain abuses committed against counter-revolutionists, than we still use to punish the crimes of those who rose up in arms, who, when they became our prisoners, we detained in "open regime farms," without bars, without armed custodians, working with dignity and in permanent cultural activities. What "The Lesser" ignores is that I visited, without arms, several counter-revolutionary encampments and with the help of the Sandinista directorate and obeying their mandate, I was able to pacify these groups, who were armed by the yanki government.

Almost everything Artola says is coarse, slanderous and simply a repetition of the story published by the Nicaraguan right when the electoral processes began.

We -Daniel, Lenin and I- are at the disposal of who wants to investigate those sad events to clarify a truth that is widely known in this country. The principal Miskito leaders of those bitter moments were Brooklin Rivera and Steademan Fagoth, both now identified with the F.S.L.N. The first is a deputy of the F.S.L.N. wing and the second is Minister of Fishery. Both of them are my friends.

My Peruvian family is anguished by these coward accusations. I am not afraid -in any terrain- of any right winger of the world, least of all, of an individual who dishonors Peru because he bears the most illustrious of Peruvian sur-names.

Para que los lectores de Nicaragua y de otros países, donde se publican mis artículos, comprendan cuanto voy a decir, explico: en el Perú hay una gloria nacional, el ideólogo revolucionario más lúcido de América Latina. Se llama José Carlos Mariátegui. Tuvo un descendiente, llamado Aldo, director del pasquín ultraderechista "El Correo". Al primero lo he calificado como Mariategui "El Grande" y al otro como Mariategui "El Pequeño".

Aldo es el más rabioso reaccionario del Perú. Es, además, mal redactor, intelectualmente reducido, racista. Llama al líder indígena-asilado de una manera sorpresiva en nuestra Embajada, la que es respetuosa de los asuntos internos del Perú, Alberto Pizango, como cholo "abominable y aventurero".

Mariátegui "El Pequeño" aprovechándose de mi ausencia (estoy en Nicaragua por la extrema gravedad de una tía que considero mi segunda madre) y desde las páginas de su diario, recoge cobardemente las acusaciones de Adán Artola (partidario de la independencia de la Costa Atlántica de Nicaragua, quien odia al F.S.L.N., por ser la organización que jamás permitirá la desmembración de la patria) contra dirigentes del F.S.L.N, a quienes califica de genocidas. Este Artola visitó alguna vez mi oficina de Managua. Ahora es asiduo visitante de la embajada americana donde, dicho sea de paso es tratado con cierto desprecio.

Lo que ignora "El Insignificante" es que un sector de los miskitos se levantó en armas financiado hasta el último cartucho y hasta el último bocado por el gobierno de los Estados Unidos. Lo que ignora "El Pequeño" es que nosotros castigamos con mas severidad a los miembros de nuestro Ejército y de nuestra Policía por algunos abusos cometidos en perjuicio de los contrarrevolucionarios, con mas dureza, incluso, de lo que castigamos los crímenes de los alzados en armas, quienes cuando caían prisioneros los teníamos detenidos en "granjas de régimen abierto", sin rejas, sin custodios armados, trabajando con dignidad y en permanentes actividades culturales. Lo que ignora "El pequeño" es que yo visité, desarmado, varios campamentos contrarrevolucionarios y logré, con el concurso de la dirección sandinista y obedeciendo a su mandato, pacificar a estos grupos armados por el gobierno yanqui.

Casi todo cuanto dice Artola es burdo, calumnioso y constituye la repetición de la misma historieta que es publicada por la derecha nicaragüense cuando se inician procesos electorales.

Nosotros -Daniel, Lenin y yo- estamos a la disposición de quienes quieran investigar aquellos tristes hechos para esclarecer una verdad que, por demás es ampliamente conocida en este país. Los principales dirigentes miskitos de aquellos amargos momentos fueron Brooklin Rivera y Steademan Fagoth ambos identificados con el F.S.L.N. El primero es diputado de la bancada del F.S.L.N y el segundo ministro de la pesca. Los dos son mis amigos.

Mi familia peruana esta angustiada por estas cobardes acusaciones. Yo no le tengo temor -en cualquier terreno- a ningún derechista del mundo, menos al individuo que deshonra al Perú llevando el más ilustre de sus apellidos.

...Nadie debe hacerse ilusiones

de que puede conquistar

una sociedad mas justa

sin luchar por ello...
